Where Good Horses and Good People Come Together
Our Story
Homefront Horsemanship was not built out of ambition.
It was built out of understanding.
For years, we volunteered with other organizations, watching veterans and first responders step into arenas and slowly let their shoulders drop. We saw the power of horses to regulate a nervous system, to restore confidence, to create connection without words.
But we also saw something missing.
The families were often on the sidelines.
And we knew that wasn’t the full story.
We come from service communities ourselves. One of us is a veteran, married to a first responder. One of us is married to a Navy SEAL. We understand the long shifts, the hypervigilance, the silent strain. Trauma does not live in isolation — it moves through households.
We also bring backgrounds in psychiatry. We have worked with individuals and families navigating PTSD, anxiety, addiction and cumulative stress exposure. Medication can be necessary. But we have seen time and again that healing often requires more than a prescription.
It requires purpose.
Responsibility.
Connection.
Something tangible.
One of us brings decades of hands-on horsemanship experience — not as a hobby, but as a discipline. Understanding herd behavior, safety, training, and the quiet leadership horses require. That depth of knowledge allows us to create a structured, safe, and intentional ranch environment where growth is earned and supported.
For one of us, PTSD is not abstract — it is personal. We understand the isolation that can follow trauma. The feeling of being misunderstood. That experience shaped a promise: no one who walks through our gate will be sidelined or diminished for what they carry.
Homefront was built differently — on purpose.
Parents and children work together. Spouses learn side by side. Families take the lead rope together. Confidence is earned in real time. Leadership is practiced, not preached.
Horses do not respond to rank or titles.
They respond to presence.
Clarity.
Calm.
And in that reflection, families rediscover strength.
Homefront is not a therapy office.
It is dirt under your boots.
It is breath slowing down.
It is a child finding courage.
It is a spouse standing steadier.
It is a veteran remembering who they are beyond the uniform.
It is a place where service families come back to solid ground.
And it exists because we knew they deserved one.
American Traditions.
Western Skills.
Community at Heart.
Homefront Horsemanship is a small, homegrown nonprofit based in East San Diego County that exists for one purpose:
to give veterans, first responders, and their families a quiet place to breathe, reconnect, and feel steady again — with help from a very special herd.
Our founders come from a blend of military, first responder, and mental health backgrounds. We’ve seen the cost of serving—long nights, heavy calls, tough transitions, and the moments that stay with you long after the dust settles.
We blend relationship-based horsemanship, simple ranch work, and time outdoors to create calm, grounding experiences at no cost to participants. No pressure. No performance. Just space, support, and a gentle rhythm that feels different from the noise of everyday life.
